Congratulations to Kara Sumner on receiving this year's $2,500 Special Education Paraprofessional Pathway Scholarship from Derby Public Schools!

Derby Public Schools is proud to announce Kara Sumner as this year's recipient of the district’s $2,500 Special Education Paraprofessional Pathway Scholarship!

District Leadership was excited to surprise Kara with this news on March 6, 2023. Kara is in her first year as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Park Hill Elementary. Before taking on this role, she spent five years as a Substitute Teacher with Derby Public Schools. Kara is working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education through Western Governors University.

This scholarship application was open until February 1, 2023 to paraprofessionals who work with students in Special Education at Derby Public Schools and are pursuing a teaching degree (or want to begin pursuing a degree) through one of the approved state paraprofessional pathway programs.
