Becky Moeder has been named the new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Derby Public Schools. She will begin on July 1 following Dr. Andy Koenigs’ retirement.

Moeder is currently serving as an Assistant Director of Special Services for Derby Public Schools. She has lived in Derby all her life, attending Derby schools herself. Some of her key duties include: designing, launching and directing a summer camp for gifted students from 2000-2018, recruiting, hiring and retaining certified and classified special education staff, planning and overseeing extended school year services, overseeing 504 processes and procedures, early childhood special education services and emergency safety interventions, as well as serving on multiple district committees and in professional organizations.

“I am excited, honored and humbled to move into this new role,” Moeder said. “It’s an opportunity to continue working alongside an incredible leadership team while focusing on attracting and retaining quality staff, becoming more engaged in our community and continuing to integrate our strategic plan goals ensuring that all students continually grow and learn.”

Moeder’s education includes a Bachelors in Music Education from Wichita State University in 1999, a Masters in Special Education from Wichita State 2003, Building Leadership Endorsement from Fort Hays State University in 2017 and District Leadership Endorsement from Fort Hays in 2019.

Previous positions all at Derby Public Schools include: Music Teacher 1999-2001, Gifted Facilitator 2001-2017, Interim Principal at Cooper 2017, Special Services Coordinator 2018-2019, Interim Special Services Director 2019, Assistant Director of Special Services 2019-Present, Adjunct Professor at Friends University 2018-Present and Master Teacher for Kansas Strong 2007-Present.

“I feel I have a unique perspective given the variety of roles I’ve served in and the relationships I’ve built over time, with students, families, staff and community members,” Moeder said.
