On September 13, 2022, the Kansas State Department of Education voted to grant Derby Public Schools (USD 260) the status of Accredited!

Receiving the “Accredited” status indicates that USD 260 Derby is effectively serving the needs of its students by demonstrating a focus on the success of each student. This status is effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2027, or until/unless changed by action of the State Board of Education.

“On behalf of the State Board of Education, I want to thank you and the many excellent educators in the district for working to ensure that each child has a path toward success after graduation.” said Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas State Department of Education Commissioner.

KESA (Kansas Education Systems Accreditation) accredits at the System (district) level to create systemic change within and among school buildings across the district. The Kansas State Board of Education identified five goal areas believed to have direct impact on producing successful high school graduates. These goals are: Social-Emotional Factors Measured Locally, Kindergarten Readiness, Individual Plans of Study, High School Graduation and Postsecondary Success. The KESA model focuses Systems on meeting these goals. Regulations require each system (district) be assigned an accreditation status based upon the extent to which it has met the criteria established by the State Board of Education.

"Accredited" means the system is in good standing (compliance) with the State Board, and that they have provided conclusive evidence of growth in student performance. In addition, the system has provided conclusive evidence of an intentional, quality growth process.
