Derby High School AFJROTC (Unit # KS-061), has earned the Silver Star Community Service with Excellence Award for the academic year 2021-2022.

The mission of AFJROTC is to: Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community. The importance of service and understanding how it positively impacts cadets, schools, communities, and our nation is a critical component of what is taught through the program and is a central part of the mission in AFJROTC.

This prestigious award recognizes the top 5% of all AFJROTC units based on community service in support of schools and local communities. The award is earned by units with the highest per-cadet average of community service hours that are planned and conducted by cadets under the supervision of their instructors. This award also recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, contributions of the instructors as mentors and the support of the school and local community.

A letter from Colonel Johnny R. McGonigal, USAF Director, HQ Air Force Junior ROTC, stated:
“This year, the cadets of AFJROTC [nationwide] conducted 1.1 million community service hours! This is an incredible accomplishment and we would like to congratulate all units for their efforts in supporting their communities. It’s not about the hours, but about the positive impact those hours represent.”

Congratulations Derby High School AFJROTC! We are #DerbyProud
