**Important 2024-2025 Enrollment Information**

New for the 2024-2025 school year, Kansas law requires school districts to allow non-resident students to enroll in and attend the schools of the district if the board’s capacity determination finds there are open seats for such students.

Important information regarding the 2024-2025 school year enrollment for all students will made available in April. This will include information on what enrollment will look like for returning families, what incoming kindergarten families need to do, or if you are a currently enrolled family this school year and desire to place a request for an elementary or middle school change at Derby Public Schools for next year. Please note: In-District waiver requests for student transfers will not open at midnight on April 1 as in years past.

If you are attending Derby Public Schools this year (in-district or out-of-district) or a school district employee's child, you will now be considered home attendance for this next school year. Application forms for Out-of-District waiver requests will be available June 1, 2024. Requests will be received, approved and placed on a lottery basis, according to space availability no later than July 15, 2024. (Based on BOE Policy JBCC.)

Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!

Enrollment Information

Completing enrollment for new and returning students as soon as possible allows the district for better planning and more accurate classroom assignments and numbers.

** If you have a pending Transfer request, please do not enroll your student until after the transfer meetings. **

If you would like to pay fees and add money for additional lunches, log in to e~funds. If you are unable to pay your fees at enrollment or wish to set up a payment plan, please complete a Promise to Pay Form. If you do not have access to a computer, please visit your student's school on the dates designated for new student enrollment.

All students (including returning students) will be required to submit a proof of residency that verifies you live within the district boundaries. For proof of residency, please submit a utility bill (water/gas/electric) via e-mail or fax to your building secretary, or drop off during in-person enrollment. Families that do not have this must have approval from the building’s principal.

New Families

It is essential that you bring the following items with you to enrollment:

  • Birth Certificate: If a birth certificate is not available, schools will accept a hospital certificate of birth, a visa or passport, a certified transcript from another school district or a court order that shows the birth date and places the student with the Department for Children and Families. Students may enter Kindergarten if they will be five years old on or before August 31, 2023. Students may enroll in first grade if they will be six years old on or before August 31, 2023.
  • Proof of Residency: Please bring a utility bill (water/gas/electric) that verifies you live within the district boundaries.
  • Health Assessment: A current health assessment is strongly encouraged for all students. Consult your child’s health care provider to obtain and complete a health assessment. Return this information to the school nurse. The Student Health Assessment form can be found under Student Forms above.
  • Immunization Requirements: Official, valid immunization documentation is required by law. The official school exclusion day for non-compliance of immunizations is November 6, 2023.
