Weather Procedures

Procedures When a Tornado Warning is Issued

Derby Public School personnel keep a close watch on changing weather situations. All staff have been trained on emergency procedures and what to do in severe weather emergencies. In the event that a tornado warning has sounded and there is a tornado in the area, schools will shelter-in-place. That means that all staff and students will be in their designated tornado shelter or tornado safety areas. Doors will be locked. No access will be allowed into the building or students released until the all clear signal is given. Our job is to keep your children safe. We will open the school and allow parents to sign out or pick up their children when it has been determined that it is safe to do so.
