Military Families

At Derby Public Schools, we are proud to serve our military community with nearly 17% of the 7,278 students being military-connected. Military families who choose to live in base housing are assigned to our school district, with one of our nine elementary schools being connected to base housing. We understand the unique needs of your family and child and look forward to assisting you. Our school district works in close partnership with McConnell Air Force Base Leadership and the School Liaison Officer to address the needs of military-connected students in the district. This partnership has provided many opportunities for program and service development that eases that impact of students in transition and supports students who are facing difficult challenges unique to military families.

Upcoming: Military-Connected Educational Partnership Council

McConnell AFB and Derby Public Schools work collaboratively through a Military-Connected Educational Partnership Council. This council includes senior leadership from both McConnell and the school district in a collaborative effort to enhance communication, continue to build our educational partnership and work in unison to improve experiences in the district for military-connected families. The council will also be empowered to recommend solutions directly to military and educational decision-makers.

The leadership council will meet quarterly, first in closed session to address current initiatives and needs. An open forum will follow where military-connected parents can address the council directly to share ideas, feedback or concerns.

The first open forum for this school year will be Wednesday, October 2 at 6PM at Derby North Middle School, 3100 N. Rock Road. The leadership council will meet prior to the open forum. If you would like to learn more or address the council, contact Greg Martin, School Liaison Program Manager, gregory.martin.43@us.af.mil or (316) 759-3326.
