The Derby Public Schools Curriculum Department has adopted Ready Classroom Mathematics for our elementary schools. Ready Classroom Mathematics is a comprehensive core mathematics program that makes math accessible to all students. Everything works together to support teachers and empower students to connect to mathematics in new ways. The program includes:
- An instructional design that allows students to take ownership of their learning
- Rigorous practice opportunities that build students’ conceptual understanding and procedural fluency
- In-depth reports that enable instructional decisions so teachers can help students reach their greatest potential
As part of the Ready Classroom Mathematics experience, we have an adaptive Diagnostic and embedded classroom assessments that provide teachers with data and instructional resources to support the needs of all students.
We will also utilize the iReady Personalized Learning Path for each student. Digital lessons are sequenced to support students’ strengths and areas for growth. Each student will begin Online Instruction in the domain in which they placed lowest on the Diagnostic assessment. Students’ paths may be adjusted after subsequent Diagnostic assessments. Students’ progress will also be monitored by their teachers to determine if further adjustments or small group/individual hands-on activities are needed to address misconceptions.
To meet the needs of Derby Public Schools middle school students we recently adopted Pearson’s enVisionmath2.0. This is a comprehensive 6-8 mathematics curriculum follows the Kansas Math Standards with superior focus, coherence, and rigor. This curriculum uses problem-based learning, embedded visual learning, and personalization to empower every teacher and student. Personalized math practice, built-in interventions, and customizable content allow teachers to increase student understanding and improve achievement.
The curriculum department is excited to offer the ©2018 high school mathematics program through Pearson: enVisionmath. It includes Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. enVision A|G|A helps students look at math in new ways, with engaging, relevant, and adaptive content. For teachers, the program offers a flexible choice of options and resources with customizable instruction, practice, and assessments. The curriculum is designed to re-energize students and help them become more self-directed and independent learners while emphasizing critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration - all valuable skills for our college and career ready students.
