The Board of Education and Derby City Council recently prioritized and approved the addition of a School Resource Officer (SRO) to serve at the elementary level. Officer Amanda Stitt has been selected as the Elementary SRO for Derby Public Schools. Officer Stitt is currently an SRO at Derby High School and will begin her new position in January 2024. Officer Christopher Hebberd will join the SRO team and begin serving as an SRO at DHS in January. Derby Police Department now provides support with five SROs and two Adopt-a-School Officers.

Meet the Officers in Our Schools

The Elementary SRO will serve in the same functions as the Secondary SROs, providing a positive law-enforcement presence which enhances safety, security, and contributes to the overall experience of students attending our schools. Officer Stitt will serve at the six elementary schools that lie within the Derby city limits (Derby Police Department’s jurisdiction). The remaining three elementary schools - Cooper, Oaklawn, Wineteer - receive support from the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office.
