Congratulations to the Derby High School Air Force JROTC Unit # KS-06 on earning the Distinguished Unit Award and the “Silver Star” Community Service with Excellence Award for the academic year 2023-2024. 

The Distinguished Unit Award recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, the contributions of the instructors as mentors, and the support of the school and local community. The Distinguished Unit with Merit is only available when a Headquarters Inspector personally evaluates the unit. 

This program has earned the "Silver Star" Community Service Excellence Award for five of the last six years (awards paused one year due to COVID-19). This award recognizes the top 5% of all AFJROTC units in the nation. based on community service in support of schools and local communities. The award is earned by units with the highest per cadet average of community service hours that are planned and conducted by cadets under the supervision of instructors. This award also recognizes the personal growth and accomplishments of the cadets, contributions of the instructors as mentors and the support of the school and local community.

The mission of AFJROTC is to “Develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community.” We are proud of our cadets and instructors for their continual strides to live up to this mission!
