A memorable moment for two Derby Public Schools educators today as District Leadership stopped by to share that Jonathan Wisner, Music Teacher at El Paso Elementary, and Jessica Fuller, Business Finance Teacher at Derby High School and Education Manager for the school’s Citizens Bank of Kansas branch, have been selected as our 2028 Kansas Teacher of the Year nominees! In addition to the exciting news, they received a gift bag with extra school supplies and gift certificates from Ziggi’s Coffee, in recognition of their commitment to teaching excellence.

Sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, the Kansas Teacher of the Year program recognizes and celebrates outstanding elementary and secondary educators from across the state. The program provides an opportunity to honor excellence in the classroom while bringing together exemplary educators to share their expertise, strengthen the teaching profession and serve as leaders and advocates for students and public education across Kansas.

As district nominees, they will represent Derby Public Schools in the Kansas Teacher of the Year selection process, joining educators from across the state in celebrating the impact great teachers have on students, schools and communities. Jonathan and Jessica represent the dedication, creativity and care that make a difference for students each day. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
