Derby Public Schools proudly serves our military community, with over 10% of our 7,326 students connected to military families. Throughout April, we celebrate the Month of the Military Child with special activities, lessons, recognition displays and Purple Up Day on Wednesday, April 15. We invite our community to wear purple, a color representing all branches of the military, to show support for our military-connected students and families.

Derby Public Schools works in close partnership with McConnell Air Force Base leadership and the School Liaison Officer to support students during transitions and deployments. Our commitment has earned Derby Public Schools the Purple Star District designation, recognizing all 12 schools for their dedication to military families. The Military-Connected Educational Partnership Council continues to strengthen collaboration between the district and McConnell AFB. The next military-connected family forum will be held at 6PM on Tuesday, April 28, at Derby Middle School (801 E. Madison).

April is a special time to recognize the sacrifices military families make and to celebrate the strength and resilience of their children. In Derby Public Schools, we are proud to stand beside them, not just in April, but every day. Learn more about available resources and supports for military families
