Congratulations to Derby Middle School and Derby High School for being honored as a 2025 School of Excellence by the Civic Advocacy Network (CAN) for the exemplary civic engagement opportunities they provide to students. 

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) established the Civic Advocacy Network to recognize and award schools that actively involve students in civic engagement learning and real-world opportunities. Schools are scored based on instruction and discussion of government, history and law courses offered, as well as programs implemented to give students the chance to engage in civic duties such as community service and school governance roles.
