June 14 - 2nd Annual Derby Public Schools Job Fair To Be Held July 12, 12:00-3:00PM
Summary: Derby Public Schools will hold it's 2nd Annual Job Fair: We Want You! on Friday, July 12, 12:00-3:00PM in the Derby Middle School Media Center. Hiring for all open positions, both classified and certified.

June 12 - Oaklawn Elementary Named 2018-2019 Rising Star of the
Mid-America Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Summary: Oaklawn Elementary has been named the Mid-America Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Rising Star” for the 2018-2019 school year. Oaklawn received this recognition for showing the largest increase in donations out of nearly 440 schools.

May 29 - Derby High School Principal Tim Hamblin Named Kansas Scholastic Press Association Administrator of the Year
Summary: Tim Hamblin, Derby High School Principal, has been chosen as the Administrator of the Year by the Kansas Scholastic Press Association (KSPA). This award recognizes secondary school administrators who have stood up for the First Amendment and his/her students. 

May 29 - May I Make a Difference Award Winners Recognized
Summary: At the May 28 Board of Education meeting, Lois Landwehr and Venus Bishop received this month's I Make a Difference Awards.

May 15 - Derby Public Schools Board of Education Appoints Member for Vacancy Position
Summary: At the May 13 BOE meeting, Derby Public Schools Board of Education has made the appointment of Althea Arvin for the vacancy on the board. Arvin will serve on the Board of Education until the first Board of Education meeting in January 2020.

May 14 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the May 13 Board of Education meeting, staff from Pleasantview Elementary were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools.

• April 24 - Derby Public Schools To Participate in Kansas Kids’ Fitness Day on May 1, 2019
Summary: On Wednesday May 1, all Derby Public Schools third graders will be participating in Kansas Kids’ Fitness Day at Panther Stadium.

April 23 - Derby Public Schools and Derby Noon Lions Club Writing Contest Grade Level Winners Recognized at April 22 Board of Education Meeting
Summary: In 2019, the City of Derby is celebrating 150 years. Derby Public Schools partnered with the Derby Noon Lions Club to host a fun, optional writing contest for students in grades K-12 who reside in the USD260 boundaries. At the April 22 Board of Education meeting, the grade level winners were recognized and received a medal. Derby Noon Lions Club is also awarding the winning senior with a $1,000 scholarship.

April 23 - April I Make a Difference Award Winners Recognized
Summary: At the April 22 Board of Education meeting, Claudia Jernigan and Kirk Rikli received this month's I Make a Difference Awards.

• April 23 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the April 22 Board of Education meeting, staff from Oaklawn Elementary were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools. 

April 16 - Derby High School Senior Named 2019 Kansas Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholar
Summary: The 
Kansas State Department of Education named thirty-nine Kansas high school seniors as 2019 Kansas Career and Technical Education (CTE) Scholars.

April 9 - Cooper and Oaklawn Elementary Named 2018 Challenge Award Recipients
Summary: Cooper Elementary and Oaklawn Elementary are two of 185 Kansas schools named 2018 Challenge Award recipients by the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force. Schools are recognized for making a notable difference in student achievement despite facing significant challenges in their school population. 

April 9 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the April 8 Board of Education meeting, staff from Cooper Elementary were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools.

March 26 - March I Make a Difference Award Winners Recognized
Summary: At the March 25 Board of Education meeting, Dr. Logan Banister and the Derby Public Schools Grounds Crew received this month's I Make a Difference Awards. 

• March 7 - 2019-2020 Kindergarten Pre-Enrollment Begins in April

Summary: Kindergarten Pre-Enrollment week at each elementary school will occur April 22-26 during the hours listed. Schools that have additional dates and times are also listed along with items to bring to enrollment.

Summary: At the February 25 Board of Education meeting, Chalise Brunecz and Patti McGee received this month's I Make a Difference Awards.

February 26 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the February 25 Board of Education meeting, staff from Maintenance and Operations, Central Kitchen, Transportation and Supply were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools.

February 26 - Two DHS Students Named National Merit Finalists
Summary: Two DHS students were named National Merit finalists through a scholarship application process including criteria such as academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. 

February 12 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the February 11 Board of Education meeting, staff from the Derby North Middle School were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools.

February 6 - Derby Public Schools Adopts New See Something, Say Something Program 
Summary: At the January 28 Board of Education meeting, the addition of a new anonymous tip line for anyone to anonymously report safety issues at our schools was approved. The program is called See Something, Say Something. 

January 29 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the January 28 Board of Education meeting, staff from the Administrative Center, Educational Support Center and Carlton Learning Center were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools. 

January 29 - January I Make a Difference Award Winners Recognized
Summary: At the January 28 Board of Education meeting, Joaquin Zapata and Jim Koob received this month's I Make a Difference Awards. 

January 15 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service

• October 29 - Gage Chiropractic Center Donates Winter Coats to Students
 
Summary: Gage Chiropractic Center has donated 421 coats, a donation valued at over $8,000, to Derby Public Schools students thanks to the help of their generous patients.

• October 23 - Board of Education Recognizes Individuals with I Make A Difference Award
 
Summary: At the October 22 Board of Education meeting, one staff member and one volunteer were recognized with the I Make A Difference Award for their work at Derby Public Schools.

• October 23 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service

• October 11 - Derby Public Schools Director of Communications Named a Member of the 2018 Class of NSPRA’s 35 Under 35 
Summary: The National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) 35 Under 35 program recognizes young professional members who are making a difference for their school districts or education-related employers.

• October 9 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service 
Summary: At the October 8 Board of Education meeting, staff from Derby Middle School were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools.

• October 5 - Derby Public Schools Awarded $500,000 2018 DoDEA Military Connect Student Academic and Support Programs Grant
Summary: The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) recently awarded Derby Public Schools the 2018 DoDEA Military Connected Student Academic and Support Programs (MCASP) grant, providing funding from now until May 31, 2023 and totaling $500,000.

• October 1 - Derby Public Schools and Derby Noon Lions Club Host Writing Contest as a Part of the City of Derby's 150th Celebration
Summary: In 2019, the City of Derby is celebrating 150 years. Derby Public Schools has partnered with the Derby Noon Lions Club to host a fun, optional writing contest for students in grades K-12 who reside in the USD260 boundaries, open October 15 - December 14, 2018.

• September 25 - Board of Education Recognizes Individuals with I Make A Difference Award 
Summary: At the September 24 Board of Education meeting, one staff member and one volunteer were recognized with the I Make A Difference Award for their work at Derby Public Schools.

• September 25 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service 
Summary: At the September 24 Board of Education meeting, staff from El Paso Elementary were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools.

• September 25 - Derby Public Schools Teachers Recognized as Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominees at Board of Education Meeting on September 24 
Summary: One elementary and one secondary teacher were recognized as 2019 Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominees for being leaders in the improvement of schools, student performance and the teaching profession.

September 12 - Two DHS Students Named 2019 National Merit Semifinalists
Summary: Two Derby High School students were named National Merit Semifinalists for qualifying scores on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test taken during their junior year.


• September 11 - Derby Public Schools Staff Recognized for Years of Service
Summary: At the September 10 Board of Education meeting, staff from Park Hill Elementary were recognized for Years of Service at Derby Public Schools. 

• August 28 - Derby Public Schools Receives Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
Summary: The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to Derby Public Schools by Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

- Districts, Organizations Honored for Outstanding Practices in Child Nutrition and Wellness Programs
Summary: Derby Public Schools Food Service in coordination with Derby High School AFJROTC are being honored for their work on the district-wide Summer Meal Program.

- Eight Kansas Schools Recognized by Civic Advocacy Network
Summary: Derby Hills and Park Hill Elementary are being recognized for exemplary civic engagement practices and actively involving students in civic engagement opportunities.
