Guidance for Summer Learning Opportunities and Programs

Derby Public Schools held a Special Board of Education meeting on June 1 to discuss guidance for summer learning opportunities and programs. Changes to the district's COVID-19 safety logistics were approved by the Board and can be viewed HERE. This includes guidance the district will follow this summer on masks, transportation, field trips, classroom and cafeteria seating, hand washing and hand sanitizing, quarantine and close contact guidelines, cleaning, COVID-19 positive case communication and visitors. The recommended changes are in consultation with our guiding local physicians, Sedgwick County Health Department and CDC guidelines. One of the most notable changes is that starting June 2, masks for students, staff and visitors are optional. 

Please continue to monitor symptoms when not feeling well and do not come to school or work if you are sick or showing symptoms. It is important each of us does our part and continues to follow these everyday preventive actions to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases. Staying home when experiencing COVID-19 symptoms also helps to reduce close contacts and quarantine numbers.

It is important to emphasize that a decision has not been made on COVID-19 safety logistics or masks for 2021-2022 school year. This will be discussed at a future Board of Education meeting later this summer.
