Federal waivers for free student meals were NOT extended to the 2022-2023 school year. Applications for free and reduced-price meals are available during enrollment, can be picked up from a school office or can be downloaded HERE. Learn more about the Free/Reduced Meal Application HERE. Families that don’t fill out an application or do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals will be charged for each meal their child consumes starting at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.
Students in grades K-8 have two entree choices every day. Elementary students may choose between an uncrustable, goldfish and string cheese or the entree on the published menu. Secondary schools have multiple choices that vary each day. Students in grades 6-12 must have their student ID, a temporary ID card or their student ID number in order to receive a lunch or breakfast. New for this school year, secondary students may use funds on their lunch account to purchase a la carte items. All school lunches contain meat/meat alternate, grain, fruit, vegetable and milk. Students may decline two food groups and must take a full serving of a fruit or vegetable.
Breakfast and lunch menus are available through MealViewer. This is a convenient platform that allows you to view the student daily meal choices online or on the MealViewer app. You can see allergen information, nutritional information, flag your favorite meals, provide feedback and more. View MealViewer under additional links or download the mobile app and register for a free account. Create a profile and select your school(s). MealViewer works well on desktop or by downloading the app to customize and load your child's school. If you like the monthly view to print, access on your desktop and click the print icon in the right corner. When you click the print icon, you can choose whether or not to print food group headers, specific nutrition information, etc.
Note: Due to supply chain challenges, menus are subject to change without notice. The Derby Public Schools Food Service Department is experiencing supply-chain interruptions due to limited product availability, nation-wide transportation challenges and supplier's labor shortages. We are working diligently to minimize the effect this may have on school meals. Menu changes are likely during this time, however, all students will continue to be offered meals that meet menu requirements and nutrition standards.
How Do I Register for MealViewer?
1. Go to schools.mealviewer.com or download the mobile app and register for your free account.
2. Create profiles for you and your students and add their schools to view daily menus.
3. Add allergens to your student's profiles to receive custom alerts. Favorite and rate different meal items so students can know when their favorite meal is being served.
