Kansas Vision for Education
The Kansas State Department of Education has a vision that Kansas leads the world in the success of each student. Kansans are demanding higher standards in academic skills, as well as employability and citizenship skills. To achieve this vision in education there are various outcomes being measured, including graduation rates.
Defining a Successful High School Graduate
As defined by the Kansas State Board of Education, a successful high school graduate has the:
• Academic preparation,
• Cognitive preparation,
• Technical skills,
• Employability skills and
• Civic engagement
to be successful in postsecondary education, in the attainment of an industry-recognized certification or in the workforce, without the need for remediation. Derby Public Schools has worked to define a successful high school graduate.
