Parents As Teachers

If you are pregnant or parenting a child who is under 5 years of age, you are eligible for home visits. During a home visit one of our certified parent educators will come to your home, or you may come to our facility if you prefer. The parent educator can conduct various developmental screenings, as well as hearing and vision screenings. Various developmental activities that you can make at home will also be provided by your parent educator. A parent educator will typically visit your home once a month for about an hour at each visit. If the parent educator feels that your child may have some developmental delays, they will be able to direct you to a program to help assess your child's possible delays. Home visits are a great way to learn different activities to help your child put their sensory abilities to work. Also, receiving home visits and being enrolled in our program is completely FREE.

Cookie Bookie is an early literacy storytime for children birth-5. We start with a fun and interactive story then follow up with themed crafts and activities. During Cookie Bookie each child will receive a cookie to frost and eat and a book to add to their home library. If you are interested in attending a Cookie Bookie storytime please fill out the PAT enrollment form or contact Parents as Teachers at 316-554-0110. 

Wee Panther Pals is a school readiness program for pre-kindergarten children ages 3-5 residing in the Derby USD 260 school district. Enrolled students attend class once a week with a parent or grandparent to participate in structured learning activities in a classroom environment.  Please note that classes are filled on a “first come, first serve” basis.  The 2023-2024 class schedule is based on availability and is subject to change.  

Special Note: Wee Panther Pals classes are designed to be a focused one-on-one time for the enrolled child and a guardian. Parents are responsible to make child care arrangements for other siblings in order to participate in the program.

Group connections are intentionally planned events that provide opportunities to share information about parenting issues and child development with a group of families. Children ages birth to five will have fun exploring the variety of age appropriate activities with a parent or grandparent. Group connections also provide an opportunity to meet other families enrolled in the program.
