E-Academy

Join us at Derby's E-Academy, an online learning option for any Kansas student in grades 6-12!

Derby's new E-Academy is open for enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year! This online option is open to any Kansas student in grades 6-12, providing a blended education model designed to be flexible and meet the unique needs of each family. Edgenuity, the online curriculum that will be utilized, aligns with Kansas Core standards.

Derby’s E-Academy will offer two instructional models that families can decide what fit their child's learning needs best. Instructional models include:

  • 100% Virtual: All learning is completed online with required twice per month check-ins with a certified Derby virtual teacher. Option to attend scheduled drop-in support sessions with small groups of students and staff. Support sessions are offered both during the day and some evenings.

  • Hybrid Learning: Combining online and in-person instruction, this offers the benefits of flexible scheduling, personalized learning experiences, and opportunities for direct interaction.

    • Two 90-minute in-person sessions with optional, additional drop-in support sessions OR

    • Three 90-minute in-person sessions with optional, additional drop-in support sessions

Instructional support is available for students with IEPs, 504s and ELL plans. There are no fees to enroll, however if a student needs a device to complete online coursework, they can choose to receive a district-issued Chromebook and pay a $40 non-refundable technology fee to be paid upon enrollment. The device would need to be returned in good condition when the student completes the E-Academy program. Student supplies will be requested on a course by course basis.

If a student does not meet the average daily virtual attendance requirement of 30 hours a week (6 hours a day) and/or fails to maintain at least a "D" progress in their course work, they will be required to improve during a probationary period. If improvements in attendance and course progress don't occur after the probationary period (30 days) the student will be required to return to in-person attendance in their home school or district.
