HOME VISITS
Image

Home visits are a favorite part of Derby Parents As Teachers. A trained and certified home visitor delivers a neuroscience-based lesson plan by demonstrating age or developmentally appropriate learning activities with you and your child/children.

Children look forward to seeing their special visitor and parents enjoy the provided information for each child regarding intellectual, fine and gross motor skills, language skills, social skills and typical developmental stages.  A story is always read to the child at the end of each visit.

Reseach proves that parents are their own children's best teacher and that parents have a huge impact on the school-readiness of their children.  Free developmental screenings can also be administered in the comfort of your own home or at the Parents As Teachers facility.

THE COOKIE BOOKIE CLUB
Another favorite component of Derby Parents As Teachers is the Cookie Bookie Club, a story time including songs, rhymes and fun activities after the story.  The Cookie Bookie Lady, Danna Peterson, reads the story for the day and makes it exciting for the children as she involves them in the process.  Following the story, children have a variety of hands-on activities to do... ALWAYS play dough fun and frosting a cookie to eat is ALWAYS a pleasure. Other crafts relate to the story and parents may choose the activities that are appropriate for their child's age.  There's even an "infant table" with hands-on play items just for the wee ones.  EVERY child leaves with a brand new book so they can have their own library at home.  Check the calendar for dates and times.  You may email cmcmulli@usd260.com to be included in the Parents As Teachers email newsletter.

WEE PANTHER PALS
  Image
Derby's Wee Panther Pals  is a parent/child school-readiness program for children ages 3 through kindergarten entry. Parents attend with their children and act as their own child's teacher during center-based learning times.  Parents are also provided with activities to do with their child at home to enhance their skills for success in school.  There are five sections of classes that meet once per week for two hours. For more information, please call Bonnie Glaser or Deborah Whitfield at 316.554.0110 or 316.554.0384 .

Wee Panther Pals take a field trip to ride ponies and see other farm animals. Wee Panther Pals take several field trips each year. This year so far, they also went to a pumpkin patch, had the firemen visit their classroom and still have trips to Exploration Place, Dillons Market Square, Great Plains Nature Center and will sing Christmas carols at assisted living facilities.
