Enrollment

If you have a currently enrolled Kindergarten-11th grade student at Derby Public Schools during the 2023-2024 school year, their seat is already secured for the 2024-2025 school year. You will complete enrollment online and pay school year fees in July. (July enrollment dates to be determined.) 

• If you are a current in-district transfer student attending the school of your choice, no transfer application is needed for the 2024-2025 school year. Continued enrollment will be allowed. 

• If you are a current non-resident transfer (currently enrolled, but do not reside in USD260 boundaries) attending the school of your choice, no application is needed for the 2024-2025 school year. Continued enrollment will be allowed.

If you have a currently enrolled student and wish to submit an in-district transfer request to a different Derby school than where they are currently enrolled, the application window requesting a new transfer for the 2024-2025 school year will be April 15-24, 2024. The form will open at 8AM on April 15 and close at 4:30PM on April 24. When the number of in-district applications exceeds the school building, program, or grade level capacity, the district will randomly select students through a confidential lottery process conducted by the superintendent or designee. Families will be notified of their placement by May 1, 2024.

If your child will be five years old on or before August 31, 2024, please complete the brief intent to enroll form between April 15-26, 2024. After completing the intent to enroll form, you must bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate and proof of residency in the Derby school district (a current copy of a water/gas/electric bill) to your child’s school office during this time frame. This will secure your child’s spot at their home attendance school and you will then be able to complete enrollment online and pay school year fees in July.

If you do not complete the intent to enroll form and bring in the required documentation between April 15-26, you will not be guaranteed a spot at your child’s home attendance/neighborhood school.

If you have a child in 1st-11th grade who lives in USD260 boundaries and will be a new student at Derby Public Schools for the 2024-2025 school year, please complete a new resident intent to enroll form between April 15-May 23, 2024. 

After completing the intent to enroll form, you must bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate and proof of residency in the Derby school district (a current copy of a water/gas/electric bill) to your child’s school office during this time frame. This will secure your child’s spot at their home attendance school and you will then be able to complete enrollment online and pay school year fees in July.

Open seats for Kindergarten-12th grade will be published after May 1, 2024. Application forms for Out-of-District waiver requests will be available June 1- 30, 2024. Requests will be received, approved and placed on a lottery basis, according to space availability no later than July 15, 2024. The Derby Public Schools Board of Education also approved that after non-resident approval and enrollment occur, all non-resident students will need to be screened for academic performance in reading, math and science.
