Planning for Your Student’s Future
The Derby Board of Education is committed to a state-of-the-art education for all students, and is continuously looking at ways to enhance the educational opportunities within the Derby district. With support of the board, a strategic planning team was established involving representatives of all stakeholders who identified the district’s strengths and weaknesses, established a mission statement, and created board objectives for the strategic planning program. Proactive strategies were developed and the specific action plans have already produced incredible results district-wide.

Curriculum is the Core
With a comprehensive educational program, the district is proud that students who graduate are highly prepared for post-secondary education, diverse employment opportunities and other careers of choice. Derby Public Schools is home to one of the first elementary schools in the nation to offer a Project Lead The Way learning curriculum that exposes students to science, engineering and mathematics like no other program. This curriculum has helped to serve as a springboard for the development of Project Lead The Way Launch, a national program. These amazing opportunities continue through high school in Derby, which has proven to be an invaluable experience for students interested in this field of study.

Support for Special Populations
Derby Public Schools offers district-wide support for students who are English Language Learners (ELL) and for those who require specifically designed instruction in the least restrictive environment. Derby is committed to providing a full range of services for any student who has unique learning needs. The district strives to ensure that all students have access to the curriculum in a manner that enables them to reach their individual goals.
