Dr. Holly Putnam Announced as the Next Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Starting July 1
At the February 27 Board of Education meeting Dr. Holly Putnam was announced as the next Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for Derby Public Schools. She will begin on July 1 following Dr. Charlene Laramore’s retirement.
Dr. Putnam is joining our district and community from Hazelwood School District in Missouri, where she is currently serving as the Director of Curriculum. The local area will be familiar for Dr. Putnam as she graduated from Wichita State University in 1998 with her Bachelors of Art in Elementary Education K-8. In 2007, she graduated from the University of Texas with a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and credentials as a Master Reading Teacher, Reading Specialist PreK-12 and an English Language Learner (ELL) Specialist. In 2014, she received her Educational Specialist Doctorate degree from Saint Louis University.
Other previous work experience includes: Edison Learning Director of Achievement/ELL Coordinator, Edison Schools National Curriculum Coordinator and Confluence Academies District Literacy Coach/District ESL Coordinator. Dr. Putnam has also authored and presented at numerous Edison Learning’s National Conferences since 2002. In 2012, she was awarded the Edison Learning Unsung Hero Award for her relentless work, leadership, conference presentations and committee work. Prior to working in schools, Dr. Putnam served two years as an AmeriCorps Vista core member where she collaborated to write grants and coordinate volunteer programs with local non-profit organizations to provide educational advocacy services for under served children and families.
