John Jennings, an EdTech Managing Editor, noted that some of the districts listed are small, while others boast enrollment numbers in the high five-figures. The one thing these districts have in common is that they chose to prioritize their web presence.
EdTech stated that, “Derby Public Schools stood out as one of the few districts to include a direct acknowledgement of the "Future Families" audience segment. While other districts provide a basic "About Us" page, Derby's simple act of personalizing the experience makes a difference in how it's perceived. The quick links stuck to the right side of the screen are a unique element that allows this district to save space in its menu while providing one-click access to key destinations.”
It is exciting to see these areas highlighted because these were specific areas our district worked hard to implement and enhance. Prior to launching the new website on July 1, 2016, we gathered information from individuals on specific items they would like to see featured. One example of a group we met with was from McConnell Air Force Base, which provided valuable insight on ways to improve and add content to our website. A few suggestions included: community information, graduation requirements, more detailed content in the area of early childhood and extracurricular opportunities available at each level in our schools. The district website is a custom, cutting edge design which includes parallax scrolling, interactive infographic boxes, hovering icons, live social media feeds, mega menu in addition to many other features. The district website is also ADA compliant.
